The development timeline of Stiesdal Hydrogen

Stiesdal Hydrogen applies the industrial simplicity proven in wind power to electrolysis. From early laboratory tests in 2020 to serial production of modular electrolysers, the timeline reflects a continuous drive to simplify hydrogen technology for true industrial scale.

2020

First laboratory validation of industrial alkaline electrolysis

Drawing on the simplicity that redefined the wind industry, Stiesdal set out to simplify hydrogen production, not reinvent it. Through modular design and industrial manufacturing methods, electrolysers could become durable, standardised products instead of costly bespoke installations.
2020

Stiesdal Hydrogen incorporated

Following a study of the electrolyser market, Henrik Stiesdal identified a key inefficiency: while electrolyser stacks were often industrialised, surrounding Balance of Plant systems remained custom-built. Stiesdal Hydrogen A/S was created to industrialise the full process, applying the modular and scalable manufacturing methods proven in wind and solar power.

2022

First full-scale HydroGen Electrolyser completed

The first full-scale HydroGen Electrolyser was completed at the company’s facility in Give. The system demonstrated the feasibility of a fully modular, containerised alkaline solution integrating stack and balance-of-plant in a standardised architecture.
Validation of the modular design confirmed that alkaline electrolysis could be delivered as a product platform rather than a bespoke plant.
2023

First 3 MW HydroGen unit delivered commercially

The first commercial-scale 3 MW HydroGen Electrolyser was delivered to Shell Low Carbon Solutions and Andel’s Power-to-X facility in Glansager, supplying green hydrogen for biomethane production. This marked the transition from development to real-world operation under commercial conditions.
Delivery demonstrated that standardised electrolyser modules could be integrated into existing energy infrastructure without project-specific redesign.

2023

Strategic industrial partnerships established

Industrial partnerships were formed with Danfoss, KK Wind Solutions (KK Group as of 2026) and Welcon to strengthen power electronics integration, system engineering and scalable manufacturing capabilities.
Building an industrial hydrogen platform requires coordinated supply-chain integration, enabling repeatable production and cost reduction through volume manufacturing.
2024

Multi-unit delivery and operational validation

The second, third and fourth 3 MW HydroGen units were delivered to customer sites in Denmark. Operational experience confirmed system robustness, modular scalability and flexible integration across different applications.
Delivering identical systems to multiple customers under different conditions proved the technical repeatability essential for large-scale delivery.

2025

First serially produced HydroGen unit delivered

The fifth 3 MW HydroGen Electrolyser was delivered as Stiesdal Hydrogen’s first serial unit, marking the transition from pilot manufacturing to repeatable output. At the customer site in Måde, hydrogen generation began just 16 days after delivery.
Serial production and rapid commissioning at Måde showed that fabrication and delivery could be standardised, proving the consistency needed for true industrial scalability.
2026 and beyond

Industrial-scale green hydrogen delivery

Stiesdal Hydrogen is progressing towards multi-megawatt deliveries through standardised electrolyser platforms, supporting large-scale Power-to-X and industrial decarbonisation projects.
